Anna University was established on September 4, 1978, as a unitary type of University. This university was named in honor of the late Dr. C.N. Annadurai, former Chief Minister from Tamil Nadu. It offers higher education in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, and Applied sciences relevant to the current and future needs of society. Outraged promote research and disseminate the resulting knowledge, it promotes cooperation between the academic and industrial communities.  The university is located in the southern part of Chennai city and is 3 km away from the nearest station (Guindy) and 10 km. from Chennai Airport. The university's main campus spans 189 acres adjoining the Adyar River to the north and Raj Bhavan in the south. The Madras Institute of Technology in Chrompet constitutes the University's second campus which spans 52 acres. A third campus spanning 5 acres is located in Taramani, Chennai. These campuses have a variety of buildings serving the diverse needs of the university community.

Candidates are shortlisted on the basis of the score obtained by the candidate for the TANCET, NEET, GATE, TNEA, CAT, MAT, UGC NET, CSIR NET, JRF and NATA

The candidate must have exceeded the 10+2 exam with a recognized Board.

The candidate must have passed the 10 + 2 exam with the PCM subjects in the case of B. Tech and Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology or Biotechnology due to the main subject in the case of B. Tech Biotechnology, B. Tech Genetic Engineering, and B. Tech Biomedical Engineering.
