The Government Engineering College, Idukki (GECI) is located in the beautiful high range district of Kerala known for its mountainous hills and dense forests. The location of the institute in the idyllic environment makes it perfect for academic pursuit. The education system followed in the college enables the students to achieve academic success as well as develop interpersonal skills. Each student is assigned to a staff advisor from the concerned department who guides the students in curricular and extracurricular activities during the period of study in the college. The college has a very active student’s union whose principal objective is to develop leadership qualities, integrity and inculcate the spirit of service among the students. The members are responsible for organising sports, arts, cultural and edutainment events. The college is academically structured into seven departments - Electrical and Electronics Engineering - Electronics and Communication Engineering - Computer Science and Engineering - Information Technology - Mechanical Engineering - General Engineering Department - Department of Mathematics and Basic Sciences The college has a very active career guidance cell that frequently organizes various soft skill development programmes and workshops to motivate students to perform better. The placement cell aims at providing placement opportunities for the students. A counselling cell has also been set up to help and guide the students. The college has well-equipped lab and a well-stocked library with subscription to national and international journals and periodicals. GECI is one of the leading institues that assumes a pivotal role in shaping future engineers through quality education.

The College has a very active Career Guidance & Placement Cell (CGPC). It has established contacts with leading software and industrial houses for campus recruitment drives. The CGPC periodically organises placement training programmes and workshops for students to perform better in campus recruitments. During 2019-20, a total of 65 jobs were offered by tier 1 companies like TCS, Infosys Wipro etc.to a maximum salary package of 4.2 lakhs CTC for the students
